UWF Main Campus Location

The map above is intended to show the University of West Florida Main Campus in reference to Escambia County as well as the State of Florida. The bright blue star provides contrast with the green polygon of the county and the light colored state. This allows the audience to focus on what this maps true purpose is. The scale bar is also helpful in this map. By using estimations we can see it is about 20 miles from the western border and nearly touching the eastern border.

I tend to create layouts frequently for my current job, mainly for new ordinances or disputes with residents. One of the trickiest aspects is getting labels to show up where you want them to. The default for this map had the blue star on top of the Ferry Pass marker. I had to edit the placement of the labels for the Cities layer, forcing them to default to the bottom right of the feature. This does not always work though, as sometimes you can have hundreds of points that need to be labeled on a map. This is generally when I would make a map series.

One of my favorite things I learned this week was "Add Guides" function in layout view. Previously I would try to align it manually on the layout view, creating much more work for myself. This new function will allow me to make more aesthetically pleasing maps!
