Wine Consumption Across Europe

Mapping population density and wine consumption across Europe offers insights into regional patterns and behaviors. For my choropleth map, I selected the Europe Albers Equal Area Conic projection because it preserves area, ensuring that the visual representation of each region is proportional to its actual size. The projection is also specifically optimized for Europe, minimizing distortion across the continent.

To depict wine consumption, I used wine glass symbols on the map, opting for distinct categories that clarify different ranges of consumption. This method enables clear observation and comparison of data across regions, helping viewers quickly grasp variations and identify trends. The choice of proportional symbols for wine consumption was considered but ultimately not used. Graduated symbols were preferred as they classify the data into distinct intervals, simplifying visualness and making it easier on the viewer.

The map below not only conveys data but also tells a story of how population density and cultural practices like wine consumption interrelate across Europe!
