Rating Suitability Locations
In this analysis, we aimed to identify suitable locations for a potential property development in a study area. The developer provided specific criteria for the suitability analysis: land cover, soils, slopes, proximity to streams, and distance from roads. By combining these criteria using GIS tools, we created a suitability map that highlights the most favorable locations for development.
In the suitability analysis for property development, we compared two different weighted overlay scenarios. The first scenario assigned equal weights to all five criteria: land cover, soils, slopes, proximity to streams, and distance from roads. In contrast, the second scenario applied differentiated weights, giving greater emphasis to slope (40%), and lesser weights to land cover and soils (20% each), and even lesser weights to proximity to streams and distance from roads (10% each). The equal weight scenario resulted in a more balanced distribution of suitability across the study area, while the differentiated weights scenario prioritized areas with gentle slopes, significantly influencing the suitability map by highlighting flatter regions as more suitable for development. The equal weight area crated more suitable land while the alternative weight narrowed it down more.
